Governor Ali Hassan Joho has expressed confidence that he is ideal candidate for the country's presidential race in 2022.
Joho said it was time for Coast region to be supported politically as he goes for the seat, saying the region has been supporting several candidates who later on forget them.
"I have assessed myself and come to conclude I can be the president of this country. We (Coast region) have been complaining of being marginalised for far too long. That narrative will disappear when we get power," Joho told the press after burial of former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto in Rabai.
The ODM deputy party leader challenged his political rivals who are eyeing the seat, saying they should be ready for a bruising battle.
He boasted of having wider support from not only at the Coast but across the country adding that Kenyans adore him for his stance.
The two-time Mombasa county boss pledged to address issues affecting the Coastal people once he gets to State House, including implementation of the TJRC report.
The governor further challenged Coast leaders to support one of their own and slammed those criticising his presidential bid.
Joho met with Deputy President William Ruto at the burial of Kamto on December 19. Ruto seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as well in 2022.
