Speaking during the wedding ceremony of Khalid Nadhif Jama, son of former Garissa Governor Nadhif Jama, and Nasra Sheikh Nuh Mohammed in Nairobi on Saturday, Kalonzo said Kenyatta deserves credit for listening to the plight of Kenyans from different walks of life.

Kalonzo said halving of the tax will no doubt reduce the cost of living in the country.

His remarks were backed by ex-Prime Minister Raila Odinga who said the president did a good job by reducing the tax following the public uproar.

“I want to applaud President Kenyatta for listening to the cry of the common 'mwananchi' and reducing the V.A.T from 16 to 8 percent. Subsequently, we expect our business people to reduce the prices of the commodities which they had already increased to affordable prices,” Kalonzo said.

The Ukambani political kingpin said he is happy that the nation is united.

He maintained that he will continue to back the Jubilee regime.

Kalonzo called on Kenyans to bury their past differences for the sake of uniting the country.

On his part, Raila said the tax had made life unbearable, adding that the president is committed to change lives of Kenyans in different ways.
