Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, who refers herself as the people’s watchman, has said she feels let down by Nakuru county’s decision to buy two buses and hold a party to launch them.
Kihika, writing on her official Facebook, said the decision by Governor Lee Kinyanjui is the last priority when it comes to the county’s needs.
“Am saddened by the blatant abuse of priorities by the Nakuru County Government, we definitely have more pressing issues as submitted by residents at the public participation forums across the county,” Kihika said.
She added: “Buying two buses ostensibly for school transport shows an executive at a total disregard of the wishes of the people and totally insensitive to their most immediate needs.
”The vocal senator said the county faces many other problems which the county leadership would have focused on before thinking of buying buses.Kihika said the Early Childhood Development sector, which lies squarely at the in-tray of county governments, has serious issues and would have been prudent to first address such issues.
“The County Government of Nakuru owes the electorate an apology. Considering we still have impassable feeder roads, lack ambulances, health centers that lack medicine, many areas without water and ill-equipped ECDs, this was definitely not a priority!” Kihika said.
The governor seems to have attracted criticism from many quarters over the bus idea.
Former Molo MP Jacob Macharia expressed similar reservations.“Nakuru County today launched two courtesy buses it has acquired for use by county residents. Personally, l do not think this was a priority as at now since we have Nyayo wards Elburgon and other hospitals without ambulances,” Macharia said.
