Residents of Nyamage area in Kisii County were on Monday left in a rude shocked after a middle-aged man allegedly killed his pregnant wife.
Area assistant chief Sarah Isaboke told Hivisasa that the man Geoffrey Marita aged 28 years returned home late on Sunday night and when his wife Dorcah Nyaboke who was 4-months pregnant questioned him why he was late he started beating her.
"Marita tied the knot recently with Nyaboke but the couple has been having constant domestic quarrels. Nyaboke screamed for help at the middle of the night but, since neighbours are used to their drama no one went to rescue her," said Isaboke.
On Monday morning, neighbours went to check on her only to find her covered with blankets in bed as if she was sleeping.
According to the chief, Marita could have strangled his wife before covering her body with blankets.
"I rushed to the scene to witness the incident after neighbours alerted me and found the deceased lying in bed dead. I immediately arrested Marita before he could escape," she noted.
The chief said the body of the deceased was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue while the suspect is currently being held at Kisii Central police station waiting to be taken to court.
