Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has asked leaders across the political divide to shun referendum debate and focus on serving Kenyans.
Sonko says that the referendum push is a plot to derail and deny Kenyans development services.
According to Sonko, the referendum is not a priority for Kenyans right now.
Sonko argues that some politicians are using the conversation as a tool to gain political mileage ahead of the 2022 general election.
"The referendum is not a priority right now and as elected leaders and Kenyans we must reject it," he said.
Sonko said that it is pointless to have a referendum in the name of creating political seats for political losers.
"If any referendum is to be held it should be in 2022 and should not be about creating political seats," he said.
