Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is set to receive special recognition from President Uhuru Kenyatta as the nation celebrates her 55th Jamhuri Day Celebration.

The latter will on Wednesday be awarded for her distinguished and outstanding service to the republic as per a notice on the Kenyan gazette.

Waiguru is among the first female county bosses in the nation alongside her Bomet counterpart Joyce Laboso who is also set for a presidential award and Charity Ngilu of Kitui.

Governor Waiguru and the other county bosses will be awarded the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya, popularly known as (OGH). 

Also on the list is their Mombasa Counterpart Hassan Joho.

Others leaders set for awards include Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Kiminini lawmaker Chris Wamalwa, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated Senator Agnes Zani.

Other county bosses awaiting their awards include, Josphat Nanok of Turkana, Embu's Martin Wambora and Alex Tolgos of Elgeyo Marakwet. 

Also in the list is host Senator Johnson Sakaja and Machakos county boss Alfred Mutua.

Meanwhile, the function is ongoing at the refurbished Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and African Union Infrastructure Development Envoy Raila Odinga are among the top attendees.

Other national and regional leaders and thousands of Kenyans are also present as the nation remembers the day she became a republic.
