Despite his disciplinary shortcomings during his schooling days, Siaya Senator James Orengo came from a family where many would not expect such to exist.
He was the son of a policeman, and actually a top police officer in Luo Nyanza.
His father Apollo S Olunga was the Police Inspector of Kabondo in South Nyanza, a huge rank at a time when policemen were very respected and feared members of the society.
However, the defiant Orengo would, dispute the discipline one would have expected him to have as a result of his background, and was severally implicated in cases of breach of discipline.
With his father now a retiree by the time he was joining the Alliance School for his secondary school education in 1965, he went ahead to give teachers a hard time.
This landed him in problems with Laurie J Campbell, the school Principal then.
The same would be the case when he later joined the University of Nairobi after completing his secondary education in 1970.
And this time round he went for former Vice President Josphat Karanja who was then the School Vice Chair, and repeatedly condemned and bashed the latter.
He would later finish his law degree at the University of Dar es Salaam in the 1980s before successfully vying for the Ugenya parliamentary seat.
