The incident happened on Monday night in Masabo village Nyaribari Masaba constituency in Kisii County.

Hezra Machuki said he was returning home at 10 pm when the thugs stopped him pretending to be customers.

“I was going home when the 3 thugs stopped me pretending they wanted me to ferry them to Kiamokama market. I resisted but, they insisted that I should drop them at the market. Upon reaching Riongata area, the thugs turned against me and asked me to surrender the motorbike keys,” he narrated.

Machuki said the thugs descended on him with kicks and blows before they stabbed him with a kitchen knife on his right leg.

“The thugs beat me before they stabbed me. They took the keys from my pocket and escaped towards Kiamokama market,” he said.

Residents who heard Machuki screaming rushed to the crime scene and found him lying down in pain.

“I heard Machuki screaming and alerted other neighbours. We rushed there and took him to Kisii Teaching and referral hospital for treatment since he was bleeding,” said a local, Chris Ongoro.

Area assistant chief Michael Mamwacha said insecurity is rampant in the area in the recent days.

Mamwacha called on riders not to stop at the roadside at night alone since motorbike thieves may end up robbing them off their motorcycles.

“We are pursuing the suspects to be arrested. Riders should be vigilant and report anyone they suspect is behind motorbike theft in the region,” he said.
