Rumours about a possible cabinet reshuffle has dominated local media for several months now and the latest retreat by the president to the coast could send shivers within cabinet.

While launching Kenya Coast Guard that is largely drawn from among the Navy, Uhuru insited that the ministers work is not limited to their offices.

"The work of the ministers is not all about sitting in the office and going home in the evening. You must get out of those offices and inspect progress on the ground.

"Stop sleeping. People want to see results and that is what we want. Waziri James Macharia and myself sneaked here and discussed how to role out this. You don't have to move around with media," he said.

Among Uhuru's cabinet members, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is synonymous with impromptu visits throughout his tenure in cabinet.

The president was accompanied by ministers James Macharia, Fred Matiang'i and Mwangi Kiunjuri. Education CS Amina Mohammed was also in the coast where she was later to release KCPE results.

A tough talking Uhuru has often scolded ministers in public with Mr Kiunjuri being his latest victim over maize scandal.
