Kuria on Saturday visited Kisumu town and held brief meetings with small-scale traders in the lakeside county and on Sunday, again, he joined the opposition leader in Nairobi for the Gor Mahia-AFC Leopards duel at the Safaricom International Sports Centre.

The outspoken MP's visit to Kisumu was his second in Nyanza, Raila's political base from the time Raila met President Uhuru Kenyatta at the commander in chiefs Harambee House for their historic golden handshake.

He made his first visit to the region on April 14 and was in Homa Bay.

So why is Kuria warming up to Raila?

Immediately after the Uhuru-Raila handshake, Kuria was among the first leaders to visit Raila at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi.

And if claims that Uhuru may support Raila's presidential bid in 2022 will come to pass, obviously after a Constitutional amendment to revise the presidential age limit to allow Raila contest, Kuria may stand out to be one of the greatest beneficiaries in the government that will run between 2022 and 2027.

Being closer to Raila would mean he will have a bigger say in government and this may include influencing on who from Central or Mt Kenya region will be appointed to the government.

After all, by that time, he would have completely mended fences with Raila and would be a government insider.

Moving closer to Raila would paint him a national leader. It would also mean shading off his "bad name" especially in Nyanza where Raila comes from since for a long time has been throwing insults at the former Langata MP.
