Angry residents attacked a 50-year-old woman for allegedly bewitching her daughter-in-law.
The bizarre incident happened on Tuesday in Bombeta village, Kemera in Nyamira County.
Locals said the woman, Maurine Nyanchera, gave food to her daughter-in-law, Hyline Nyanchama with contaminated concoctions.
“Nyanchera has been threatening to kill her son’s wife claiming that she is not fit to stay with her son who is a secondary school teacher.
"She gave her food which has put ‘kamuti’ with an aim to change her mind so that she can divorce her son,” said Robert Nyang’au.
Nyang’a u said residents raided Nyanchera’s house, kicked her out and beat her up.
He said the suspect has until Saturday to ensure the victim is normal.
Area assistant chief, Robert Mabuka, said the woman after a thorough beating, admitted of bewitching her daughter-in-law.
“The suspect confessed that she is the one responsible for her daughter-in-law’s madness. She will have to ensure she is healed before Saturday,” he noted.
He warned locals against lynching the suspect.
