Police officers at Igorera Sub-Location, Kenyenya Sub-County in Kisii County on Tuesday raided a chang'aa den and arrested five illicit brewers.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet said the suspects were found in possession of over 2,000 litres of illicit liquor.
"The five brewers could not escape arrest because police officers raided the chang'aa den in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. The suspects are among the notorious illicit brew dealers who have failed to stop engaging in the illegal business," said Kibet.
The commander lauded members of the public for alerting police about the illicit brew business in the area.
He warned local chiefs against aiding the illegal business in exchange of bribes.
"Local chiefs must wake up and help police officers to arrest those engaging in outlawed businesses. No chief will be spared for condoning illegal businesses in his or her area of administration," stated Kibet.
The police commander assured residents that the suspects who are currently being detained at the Kisii Police Station will be arraigned in court on Wednesday to be charged with engaging in dubious businesses.
Kibet said illicit brew dealers must stop the illegal business failure to which they will face the full force of the law.
