North Eastern Counties are among counties that will continue to experience dry weather as the much anticipated long rains will be delayed.
The Kenya Meteorological Department said counties in North Eastern will experience high temperatures for the next few weeks as the long rains might start next month.
Ag. Director of Meteorological Services Stella Aura said most parts of the country will experience late onset and poor distribution of rainfall.
Speaking on Monday during a media briefing on the MAM 2019 seasonal update, Ms Aura said counties in North Eastern such as Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit and Moyale will continue to experience high temperatures until next month.
She said that counties from the Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL) areas are likely to experience food insecurity, water scarcity and lack of pasture.
“In Northwestern Kenya and other ASALs where poor rainfall performance is expected, problems related to water scarcity and lack of pasture for livestock is expected to increase,” said Ms Aura as quoted by KBC.
Ms Aura, however, said that North Eastern counties such as Marsabit, Moyale and other regions like western Kenya, Central Rift Valley and central highlands and Nairobi will receive near-normal to above-normal rainfall in April.
