Police are investigating an incident where human body parts were discovered at a National Youth Service (NYS) land in Yatta sub county, on Tuesday.
Yatta sub county police commander Joseph Karanja confirmed the incident.
In a phone interview, the police boss noted that they were unable to distinguish whether the body parts belonged to a man or a woman.
"Yes the body parts were found in the NYS land near Yatta prison, we can't really say if they belong to a man or a woman," said Karanja.
He said that a phone, Sh200, and a jacket were also found at the scene.
He observed that no one knows what happened to the other missing parts.
The body parts were taken to Matuu level four hospital mortuary for preservation.
Karanja urged residents who may have lost a loved one to report to the nearest police station.
"For now, we have no concrete information on what may have happened, but the police will probe and answer everyone's questions," he said.
