The decision by the ODM party to expel Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is continuing to elicit reactions from the Coast region with former Mombasa Deputy Governor Hazel Katana being the latest to add her voice on the matter.
Jumwa was expelled by the orange party over alleged gross misconduct. However, the move by the Raila Odinga-led party has angered some Coast politicians who term it as witch hunt.
While speaking in Kilifi on Friday on the occasion to mark International Women's Day, Katana urged Coast leaders to come together and defend the embattled legislator.
“As we celebrate the women’s day today we need to claim our rightful position in the politics of this country. We need to stand up and say no to such treatment. Why did ODM choose to expel only Jumwa and forgive Dori? This shows how women are disregarded in this country", Katana said.
Nominated Senator Christine Zawadi asked ODM to reconsider its move saying that internal party mechanisms should be used to deal with the situation.
She further claimed that the move by the orange party was targeting women leaders.
