Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has weighed in on the ongoing debate on a constitutional referendum.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, Moi appeared to support a referendum, saying that the mood in the country was behind a referendum and called on Kenyans to be given a chance to decide how they want to be governed.
"Kenyans should be given the opportunity to review the constitution bearing in mind what has worked for them and the country since its adoption," the statement partly read.
His remarks are a boost to veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga who has called for a referendum.
Deputy President William Ruto had opposed such calls, charging that they were aimed at benefiting a few people.
The Baringo senator's intervention adds another twist to the raging debate.
It would be interesting to see the implication that his words will have on the political landscape.
