Apart from politicians, Radio and TV presenters are among the highly influential people in Kenya. Most of them are well known across the counties, a thing that makes them better placed as opinion makers.
However, being a celebrity comes with many challenges ranging from lack of privacy to being 'murdered' on the internet.
For Citizen radio presenter Willy M Tuva, owning a celebrity status means subjecting oneself to all sorts of social criticism.
At one time, Tuva was 'murdered' by the internet, with social media spreading the news of his 'death'.
Revealed the extend at which fake news involving celebrities can soar, the Nairobian revealed how secular artist Susumila called the Radio presenter on phone asking him if he was alive.
“When I questioned why he would ask me that yet we were on phone speaking he told me ‘let me send you something first then we can talk’.
After reading the news of my supposed death all I could think of was: what if somebody called my mother and told her I was dead?” Susumila said as quoted by the mainstream media
Other Kenyan celebrities who have once been killed by the internet include actress Brenda Wairimu, l radio presenter Fred Obachi Machoka, comedian Owago Nyiro and blogger Xtian Dela.
It is said social media users issue death hoaxes on celebrities to get traffic on their sites.
