As 2018 World Cup gets to the semi-finals, a third year Kenyatta University student is in agony after he missed a whooping Sh500,000 from Russia vs Croatia game played on Saturday night.
The business economic student identified as Bruce Kamau revealed how he had placed a live bet on "Russia to win on penalties" a market not familiar to most 'investors'.
"I was so sure of a draw full time and extra time that's why I decided to bet on penalties more so with Russia on home soil. I could not hesitate to place Sh10,000 on them to win on penalties with the odds being at 50.0 and I was expecting Sh500,000 win," Kamau sadly recalled.
Kamau further revealed how he was motivated to bet on that game which most of his close friends had warned that it will not be friendly.
"My friends kept on telling me it will be a tough game but because I had earlier won Sh100,000 on the same Russian team to 'win on penalties' during Russia vs Spain round of 16, there was every reason to place a bet on them to win also on penalties," said Kamau.
Kamau, a known gambler at the institution said he will continue gambling since that's where he has earns a living from; the profits he makes are huge than losses he might have made.
"I will continue betting because losing is not a new thing to me. Last week I also missed Sh200,000 and apart from paying my fees with the money I also help my siblings who are in secondary schools to pay their fees," Kamau further added.
The game ended with Croatian team winning 4-3 on penalties which went against Kamau's placed market.
Croatian team will face England in the semi-final.
