The incident happened on Saturday evening at Ikonge market in Nyamira County.

Peter Bichanga locked the house of his tenant, Victor Mayora after he failed to pay him Sh200.

“I can’t continue condoning him to live in my house without paying me. Last month, Mayora paid me only Sh800 instead of Sh1,000 monthly rent.

"He promised to pay Sh200 before July 27 but he didn’t fulfil the promise,” said Bichanga.

He said he locked the house so that the tenant can pay him the remaining Sh200 before paying end of this month rent.

"I struggled to build my house and I won’t allow anyone to misuse my hard wrok. He has until Monday to settle the balance failure to which he will vacate the house,” he noted.

Area assistant chief, Jared Magara, said efforts by other tenants to have the landlord open the house for Mayora didn’t bore fruits.

The administrator urged tenants to live by their promises to avoid being locked outside.
