A man shocked Ikonge villagers in Nyamira County after he slashed his wife, a mother of three to death over a piece of land.
Witnesses said trouble started when the killer husband, Dickson Masese wanted to sell the piece of land, the proposal his wife, Agnes opposed.
"Masese tried to force his wife to accept his proposal to sell their piece of land in vain. He picked a machete and slashed her to death," Philip Morara.
Mr. Morara said the deceased was opposing Masese's proposal because he sold another piece of land last year and used the money to buy alcohol and sleeping with prostitutes.
Area assistant chief Fred Obae said the killer escaped after committing the crime.
"The suspect is on the run but, we will catch up with him. He can't eliminate his wife just because he opposed his proposal to sell land," said Obae.
Mr. Obae said he is not going to allow any land transactions to take place in the area.
The chief said the deceased body was moved to a Kisii Hospital morgue.
He asked the public to report the suspect to authorities whenever they will spot him in the village.
