A short video of a university student assaulting a lady in the hostel has gone viral on social media.
The 22 seconds long video shows a male and a female student engaging in an argument before it turned violent. The video has attracted a lot of reactions from Kenyans and specifically university students.
Most of the students at Moi University have demanded action to be taken against the comrade who assaulted the lady.
"The video paints a wrong image of what happens at school. Our parents now think that all we do here is engaging in relationships instead of studying. Action must, therefore, be taken against the students involved," Danel Ochieng, a third-year student in the school of education commented.
Some, however, blamed the lady for starting a fight she could not finish. The lady had tried to slap the male student before she was overpowered.
"In as much action should be taken against the guy, the lady should also be partially blamed for it. What was she expecting when she began the fight? But still, that does not justify what the man did to her," Vivian Moraa, a first-year student noted.
Another student Nora Cheptoo who is a fourth-year, on the other hand, takes the stand that violence against a woman cannot be justified no matter the circumstances.
"Women have always been victims of violence. Nothing will, therefore, justify what the guy did to the lady. He should, therefore, be arrested and charged for assaulting the lady," Cheptoo argued.
It has not yet been established to which university the students belong. The video is, however, continuing to receive mixed reactions on social media.
