The Ford Kenya Party leader argued that President Uhuru's visit to Somali’s capital,  Mogadishu will go a long way in addressing this situation.

“Kenya should be careful not to let our bilateral relationship with Somalia sink below the current level. Powerful forces against Kenya can take advantage of and hurt our country. President Uhuru should call their bluff and visit Mogadishu & meet their President,” said Wetangula.

This comes just hours after Kenya banned fishing near the Kenya-Somalia border citing security concerns.

Confirming this, Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said that fishing in areas close to the Kenya-Somali border such as Ras Kamboni and areas past Kiunga Town were banned.

During an interview with Daily Nation on Monday, Kanyiri pointed out that trafficking of people, fake goods and drugs are some of the concerns they are worried about.

“There are some areas that our fishermen will probably want to go fishing but those are no-go areas. The area next to Somalia border, that’s Ras Kamboni and any other area past Kiunga Town. We shall not allow our fishermen to conduct activities there for security reasons,” he said.
