Deputy President William Ruto’s allies are frustrating President Uhuru Kenyatta in the fight against graft, Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has said.
Speaking at the Royal Court Hotel in Mombasa on Monday, Mudavadi urged the allies of the second in command not to derail President Kenyatta’s agenda as he seeks to leave behind a legacy when he leaves office in 2022.
He claimed that the remarks of the allies are likely to interfere with the probe into the loss of billions in dams projects across the country.
Mudavadi said that the leaders in Ruto’s camp are working tooth and nail to make Uhuru appear like a lame-duck in the fight against the vice.
“These are tactics [used] by people who are used to impunity [and want to] intimidate the President so that he can slow down the war on corruption,” he said as quoted by Daily Nation.
The remarks come after Ruto sharply differed with African Union High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga on Sh.21 billion allocated to Arror and Kimwarer dams.
Raila has insisted that Ruto should come clean on the allegations as the fight against the vice continues.
The alleged dams’ scandals has continued to elicit mixed reactions from different factions.
