The National Parents Association has put on notice secondary school principles who have been flouting the government's directive on fee guidelines.
Associations national chairman Nicholas Maiyo says there are some school heads who have been overcharging parents way above the set fee limits.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Friday, Maiyo further revealed that some school heads were sending home students to collect as little as Sh500.
“Parents across the country should not accept to pay additional money that exceeds the government's fees structure. If you are forced to pay, then the school head must give you a receipt on the same,” said Maiyo.
He further claimed some principals have gone to an extent of asking parents to write their names on exercise books as a proof that they had paid some extra money.
“We won’t allow our parents to be exploited by few self-centred principals. Such principals should be reported and stern actions will be taken against them,” added Maiyo.
The parents association national chair further expressed their support to sentiments by Deputy President William Ruto who recently said principals and school heads who will be found charging fees over the approved one will face the full force of the law.
The government pays Sh22,244 per secondary school student in both day and boarding schools with the maximum fees payable for boarding schools set at Sh53,000.
