Former Subukia MP Koigi Wa Wamwere now says that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga working on something bigger than what meets the eye.
Speaking on Saturday, the veteran politician argued that Raila is already deep in government, thanks to his closeness with President Uhuru Kenyatta, which has seen him continue enjoying state privileges like a bigger motorcade and pay.
He noted that the latter will be seeking to tighten his grip in government using the looming referendum which he has been pushing for, and which Uhuru has also hinted at backing.
"Raila tayari yuko serikalini na anasubiri kuingia zaidi 2022 kupitia referendum (Raila is already in government and is awaiting to get deeper in 2022 through the referendum)," said Wamwere who decamped to ODM after the 2017 polls.
Raila has, however, been largely silent on his 2022 plans, after four defeats in the presidential defeat previously, the latest one being in 2017 where he lost to Uhuru.
Himself and his party have been pushing for constitutional changes, terming them the nations only remaining option remedy for political injustices.
His proposal includes the return to the parliamentary governance system from the current presidential one and an expansion of the executive.
Uhuru has also rooted for the abolition of the 'winner takes it all system'.
