And on Monday they did not disappoint, hundreds of Nakuru residents yesterday flocked cyber cafes, days to the expiry of the 'Green card' lottery program.

Officially known as the Diversity Visa program and administered annually by the US government, the registration period started on October 3 and runs until November 6.

Macharia, a cyber cafe operator along Kenyatta Avenue, says clients have now doubled.

“We have received more applicants than the last weeks and is expected to rise as we near the deadline day. Kenyans have a tendency to wait until the last minute before they turn out for anything. It is a bad habit,” said Macharia.

Kenyans wishing to submit entries must do so electronically during the registration period.

“I am so delighted to have registered and I hope to get the chance to win the green card. This is my first time to apply," said Douglas bosire, a businessman.

Applicants who submit paper entries will be rejected. All applicants are encouraged to print and retain their online confirmation page after completing their Diversity Visa entries to enable them check their entry status.

Results of the DV-2020 lottery will be made available on the State Department website in May 2019, and eligible winners along with their spouses and minor children will have a chance to migrate to the US.
