The tragedy occurred in May last year where it killed up to 50 people.

Speaking in Solai, senators from various house committees, led by the then Ad hoc committee chair on Solai Dam tragedy Mutula Kilonzo Junior, they said it was disheartening that the owner of the dam is 'still walking free'.

They vowed to task all the government agencies to ensure that the report, which was presented and adopted by Senate, is fully implemented.

Mutula said the victims of the tragedy must be fully compensated as per the recommendations of the Senate Ad hoc committee.

“Why are we treating Mr. Patel as if he is a superior Kenyan than the Solai Dam tragedy victims?” Mutula said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.

“As the chair Legal and Justice committee, I will ensure that the recommendations of the ad hoc committee that was chaired by Senator Mutula is implemented to the full stop,” said Senator Cherargei.

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina called on Director of Criminal Investigation and Director of Public Prosecution to take up the matter.

“We are calling on the DCI and DPP to take up this matter. The case should also be heard and determined so that the victims can go back to their normal lives,” Ledama said.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika hit out at police for arresting area MCA Peter Mbae after holding baraza to demand compensation for the victims of the dam tragedy.

“Why did they arrest the area MCA for trying to assist the victims? To make matters worse they give him a bond of one million. We are in a democratic world and people are free to assemble,” said Kihika.

Area MP Samuel Gachobe said the case against the MCA should be withdrawn.

He called on Interior Chief Administrative Secretary Patrick Ole Ntutu to ensure investigations are done into allegations that there was a committee which was bribed by Patel to give wrong information concerning the victims and compensation.
