A section of Uriri High school students on Sunday reportedly torched one of their dormitories, after allegedly being denied a chance to watch an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match.
The students allegedly torched a dormitory in order to ‘send a message’ after the school management turned down their request to be given an opportunity to watch the Harambee Stars vs Algeria match played last night.
“It is true the students burned down their dormitory last night. Reports indicate that it was due to AFCON,” Philip Osewe, a Homa Bay based journalist said in an exclusive interview.
Property of unknown value was destroyed during the inferno.
“No casualties have been reported, we have launched an investigation into the incident and soon we will know what transpired,” a senior police officer was quoted by Standard.
Kenya is back in the AFCON for the first time since 2004 in Tunisia.
Harambee Stars' next game is against Tanzania on Thursday at 11:00 pm, before facing Senegal in the last group C encounter on July 01, 2019.
Algeria and Senegal lead group C with three points apiece, after registering identical 2-0 wins over Kenya and Tanzania respectively.
