Khalwale, who recently threw his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto's bid, said NASA principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka are 'dying' to be endorsed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to take over State House after him.

"What these two (Raila and Kalonzo) are doing is about 2022 politics. They are dying for an endorsement from Uhuru," he said on Tuesday during a political live show on NTV.

The sentiments follow Kalonzo's declaration last week that he was willing to be the President's 'errand boy', a statement Khalwale interpreted as Kalonzo's strategy to push himself close to Uhuru who is nearing retirement.

The former Vice President made the remarks during the burial of his father, Peter Musyoka Mairu, in Kitui on Friday.

"What Kalonzo is doing and he has said is in no way different from what Raila did and said at the height of the handshake," Khalwale said.

The former Senator further defended Ruto from accusations he had engaged in early 2022 campaigns saying DP's massive tours across the country were in line with Jubilee agenda of transformation.

"What I want to tell those who think you can de-link politics from development to know is, politics is the conveyor belt for development. It is not an accident that Mt. Kenya region is the one that is the most developed part of Kenya, " Khalwale remarked.
