Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was not left behind when the world was marking Good Deeds Day on Sunday.
Sonko celebrated the day at City Hall, Nairobi where he announced that the Nairobi County Government will settle pending bills for patients in the county.
Sonko ordered the immediate release of all patients being held in county hospitals who have been unable to clear their medical bills.
Speaking during the event that was attended by Israel Ambassador to Kenya Noah Gal Gendler, Sonko said that the county government will use over Sh1 million to clear the outstanding bill.
He said the kind gesture was in the spirit of honouring the Good Deeds Day and directed the Health Services minister Mohammed Dagane to ensure the directive was affected.
“As a good gesture, I am directing my CECs of Health and Finance to devise ways of covering the costs of patients held at our medical facilities due to lack of fees.”
“I am therefore ordering the immediate and non-conditional discharge of the patients at Mbagathi and Mama Lucy hospitals. The outstanding debt for all of them is just over Sh1 million,” said Sonko as quoted by the Nation.
During the celebrations that were attended by Global CEO of Good Deeds, Sonko was named the Good Deeds ambassador in Kenya.
