This has openly manifested itself in his latest attacks on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), following claims that the BBI taskforce has proposed major constitutional changes.

But Mwaura says that the DP should actually be happy, especially if the taskforce proposes the expansion of the executive.

He says that with the formation of the Premier and Deputy Premier positions, the DP whose presidential ambitions are in the public domain will be in a better position to occupy one of the top slots even if not the presidency.

"Even William Ruto will benefit if there will be an expansion of the executive since he too is after Kenyans' votes (Hata William Ruto itamfaidi kama kutakuwa na expanded executive maana pia yeye anataka kura kutoka kwa wananchi )," he said on Radio Jambo on Saturday.

He personally threw his weight behind such an expansion, saying that it will help the nation reduce the life and death competition for the presidency which is currently the case.

He added that with a bigger executive, Kenyans will feel included in government, in turn, having political peace.

"We need to derisk out politics from the current system where we are using 40% of our time politicking. We also need to end the reccurent fights after every five years (Tunafaa kuderisk siasa, sip eti 40 percent ya muda wetu tunatumia tukipiga siasa. Pia tumalize vita za baada ya kila miaka tano)" he added.

Ruto's opposition comes at a time when the majority of the leading political players in the country have thrown their weight behind the pursuit of constitutional amendments.
