Emotional hunger is usually an expression of something that is missing in someone’s life.
It is common in adults and is caused by trauma, rejection or lack of skills that enable one to cope in social situations or make social connections.
These are some habits that show you are emotionally hungry:
1. Always being available for others
Emotional hunger will impart in you the need to be always available for others with the hope that they too will be available for you.
Your availability is some sort of insurance to your emotions, that when you need the people in your life, they will be there for you.
2. You have sex to feel alive
If you are emotionally hungry, you have sex to feel alive under the guise that sexual contact equals fulfilled emotional needs.
The pleasure one derives from having sex makes an emotionally hungry person feel that everything is alright.
3. Drug and substance abuse to meet emotional needs
Just like sex, an emotionally hungry person will resort to drugs to cope with the void created by unfulfilled emotional needs.
4. You can’t accept when a relationship ends
An emotionally hungry person will do anything to keep a relationship due to fear of emotional void.
Also, such a person may resort to violence when faced with the prospect of a breakup.
5. You struggle with setting boundaries
The desire for social approval may make it difficult for an emotionally hungry person to set boundaries between them and others.
The need for emotional connection is far much greater than setting boundaries and sticking to them.
