ACK church bishop John Omangi on Sunday joined NASA leader Raila Odinga's camp to push for the referendum.
Omangi, speaking on Sunday, said the referendum must be conducted to remove the huge burden from Kenyans.
"Kenyans can't continue paying people huge salaries. The referendum being pushed by Raila should sail through. I am part of the team supporting the referendum," he said.
The bishop urged church members to support the referendum saying it will be good for poor Kenyans.
He condemned a section of leaders who are opposed to the referendum.
"Anyone opposing the referendum is an enemy to the people and should be ignored. Church members should be at the forefront to ensure the referendum goes through so that unnecessary seats can be scrapped to reduce the wage bill," he added.
According to Omangi, the Gusii community will not be left behind in the referendum push.
"The gusii community has always stood by the ODM leader Raila Odinga and therefore, the community can't abandon Raila in the referendum calls," he said.
He warned elected leaders in Gusii region against teaming up with others to oppose the referendum.
