During the meeting, the envoy pledged China's support for thousands of unemployed Kenyan youths.

He said that the Chinese government is committed to supporting unemployed youths from different parts of the nation.

Peng said unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges not only in China but also in Kenya. He also said that the youth play a pivotal role when it comes to matters of development and his mother nation has good plans for them.

“We will definitely do something for the youth of this country. I promise that in the near future we [are] working for that,” Peng promised.

Kirubi asked the envoy to shed more light on the plans his government has for Kenya.

He also appealed to him not to ignore the plight of youths languishing in abject poverty while in dire need of jobs.

“The young people are the future of this country and we want the youth to feel that apart from infrastructure development, you (China) also care about their job creation," Kirubi posed.

The promise comes barely a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga were reportedly denied a loan to extend Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Kisumu.

Uhuru and Raila have, however, dismissed the rumours on social media and other plans over the loan.
