Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane has urged youth not to fall prey to terrorist groups and their sympathisers.
Korane says that young people are vulnerable to terrorism and extremist groups.
Speaking during the Mashujaa day celebrations at Garissa Primary School on Saturday, Korane said that joining terror groups is not the solution to unemployment.
He said that some youths are being lured by terrorist groups in the name of being handed big money.
"Young people should know that terrorism or crime is bad and will ruin their future and must keep off from the bad elements," he said.
Korane asked Garissa youths to take advantage of the employment opportunities in the county.
He said that the county has initiated various empowerment projects including the 'Kazi Mashinani' that young people should take up.
Korane said that his government will continue to work with the national government in the fight against terrorism.
"We are united against terrorism and as such we will work with security agencies to ensure security," he said.
Garissa is among counties in Northern Kenya that are prone to terror attacks.
The government has deployed more security in the region to hunt down terror agents.
