In one of the most unlikely scenario, Deputy President William Ruto spared Raila Odinga even after a series of jibes from the latter that directly poked holes on his famous husker narrative

Instead, Ruto turned his focus on eulogising Jane Kiano, wife to former powerful minister Dr Gikonyo Kiano during a requiem mass at St Francis ACK in Karen on Friday.

Keen to dismantle the husler narrative, Raila insisted that his political journey and that of President Uhuru Kenyatta was out of sheer hard work and determination.

“Jomo Kenyatta was the son of a pauper. He struggled and was detained by colonialists for many years.

“You cannot say Odinga (Jaramogi) and Kenyatta (Jomo) are dynasties. They were both paupers and they struggled on their own," he argued.

Mr Ruto, who is keen to succeed President Kenyatta, has often used the narrative to win sympathy from Kenyans with a section of his strategist often claiming that he's on the receiving end from Odinga and Kenyatta dynasties.

But for Raila, the narrative does not hold, adding that his father, despite being famous on his own, did not contribute to his political success.

“You cannot say Uhuru and Raila are sons of dynasties and others are hustlers,” Raila further said as listeners at the late Jane Kiano memorial service cheered.

He added: “Raila is just Raila and Uhuru is Uhuru. Nobody has elected Uhuru because he is son of Kenyatta."https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001301345/raila-joins-fray-a-day-after-uhuru-shocker

But despite the jibes indirectly referring to his State House quest, Ruto only chose to stick to mourning the deceased.

In fact, at one point he said during the 2013 polls, President Uhuru Kenyatta and him were using Jane Kiano's house during vote tallying at the mourners went silent.

On Odinga's jibes, he said: "A lot has said but I will not get into that."

Later, the three leaders moved to Ruto's Karen house for lunch, with photos of them circulating on social media minutes after leaving for their various destinations.
