Events surrounding the birth of Raila Odinga's eldest daughter, Rosemary Odinga, have now been made public.

Forty one (41) years ago, Ida Odinga has revealed, her husband, Raila, then working as a lecturer in the University of Nairobi, abandoned her in a Nairobi hospital albeit shortly when she was giving birth to Rosemary.

While celebrating Rosemary's birthday over the weekend, Mrs. Odinga caused laughter when he revealed that Raila had gone to watch Gor Mahia game and would return hours after Rosemary's birth.

“It was a Saturday and Gor Mahia were playing. He left me in the hospital to go watch Gor Mahia play. When he came back, Rosemary was born,” stated Ida amidst laughter from the crowd.

Ms. Odinga, who was diagnosed with brain tumor, has since reduced her public presence.

Months after being hospitalised in South Africa, Ms. Odinga would later withdraw her candidature in Kibra Constituency seat.

"After consultations with supporters and family, I hereby withdraw my candidature. I will however support the party as I have always done," she said with pundits associating the move with her illness.

With Raila's eldest son Fidel Castro dead and Rosemary still Ill, the veteran politician has been attending high profile functions with his youngest daughter Winnie Odinga.

The latest joint appearance by the two were in July during Barack Obama's visit to Kenya before also jetting to South Africa for Nelson Mandela Day celebrations,a day later.
