According to Auditor General Edward Ouko's findings, the money is part of the Sh800 million whose whereabouts cannot be explained by the commission heads.

The report which was on Tuesday tabled in the national assembly states that the commission used Sh691,526,210 for catering services in the course of the polls.

A look into the commission's 2017/2018 budget has also laid bare unsupported expenditure on event organizing services and excess monies used to pay for the national tally center.

The event organizing tender worth Sh36.2 million was awarded to the Wonderjoy Party World Limited.

Also in the list are irregular expenditures on media services ahead of the October 26 presidential rerun.

The audit report adds that most of the tenders were not awarded in compliance with the law, after the commission allocated Sh2.2 billion for hospitality, supplies and services.

“In the circumstances, the validity of the expenditure of Sh691,526,310 incurred on catering services by the county offices could not be ascertained,” reads the report, according to the Nation.

The report will be tabled before the Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi-led Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for a closer look.
