Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is Deputy President William Ruto’s best choice of running mate if President Uhuru Kenyatta endorses Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
Kalonzo and DP Ruto will give Raila a run for his money in the race for the Presidency.
He is among the most influential leaders not only in Ukambani but also the entire nation. Musyoka has hinted at contesting for the nation’s top post in the 2022 general elections.
The former VP has what it takes to ascend to power if his performance scoreboard is anything to go by. However, the political dynamics in the nation show that Kalonzo still has a long way to go before he can rise to power.
He is likely to opt to be a running mate to one of the presidential bigwigs when that time comes, and Ruto remains the best contender for the race. The Wiper Party leader, however, cannot make it be Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua running mate.
The two leaders hail from the same community, which makes them weaker if they decide to go to ballot under one umbrella in the name of a presidential candidate and running mates in any order.
Kalonzo’s best move is backing a presidential candidate from another community. He will take millions of votes from the Kamba nation to the candidate he will be backing when that time comes. His influence in the region makes him the best option for a running mate.
