Police officers in Nyamira County have arrested a driver who hit a man and killed him on spot in Chebilat on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, Borabu assistant county commissioner Michael Lesmum said the suspect identified as Mong'iti sped off from the crime scene after he hit the deceased.
"The driver instead of helping the victim he hit, he decided to sped off thinking he won't be apprehended. An alarm was raised and police in Keroka arrested him," said Lesmum.
He said the suspect is currently being held at Keroka police station while the body of the deceased was taken to Kapkatet hospital morgue.
Lesmum warned that careless drivers over speeding won't be condoned more especially during this festive season.
"Police officers are on high alert to arrest drivers speeding, and those driving under the influence of alcohol. The lives of people must be respected," he added.
He warned police officers manning roadblocks against soliciting bribes from careless drivers to allow them pass at roadblocks.
"Police officers found collecting bribes from careless drivers will be arrested and be arraigned in court," said Lesmum.
