Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has empathized with embattled Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, who has been linked to fake gold scandal.
The Ford-Kenya leader is facing allegations that he was part of group that swindled a Dubai royal family Sh400 million.
A leaked phone conversation dubbed 'Wetangula exposed in fake gold scam', which allegedly has the the senator talking to a dealer, has been making rounds on social media, leading to trolls directed at the legislator.
On Saturday, prominent lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi asked the State to provide 24-hour security surveillance around the senator, so that he may not commit suicide.
"When I see the vitriol, vile and violent abuse Senator Watengula is receiving in the GOLD SCAM saga, I get the distinct impression that he needs 24 hours police protection...not to protect him...but to ensure that he doesn't take his life," he tweeted.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Passaris noted that Wetangula should not be condemned unheard.
She prayed that the Senator does not commit suicide amid pressure, and ridicule from social media.
"I pray he won't take his life. Let us not assume he is guilty because of social media push and pull. My question to you as a lawyer is if you have faith in our judicial processes and structures? Social/main stream media is but a reflection of the man eat man society we are," the Woman Rep posted.
