Jacque Maribe seemed fine Tuesday morning as she appeared before high court judge Justice Jesse Lessit, but she completely broke down the moment the court ordered that she be remanded at Lang’ata Women Prison until Monday, October 15.
With manicured nails and a coiffed weave, the ex-news anchor appeared buoyed by the presence of top lawyers in her defense.
A few moments later, emotions built up on the media girl who sat next to her lover Joseph Jowie Irungu.
She often sent fake smiles to the media crew in the courtroom who scrambled to get the best shots of the two lovers.
Her lawyer Katwa Kigen tried to persuade the judge that his client should take the plea as soon as possible as she had been behind bars for long.
The judge, however, said the prosecution needed up to Monday to do a mental assessment of Maribe.
No amount of persuasion from the soft-spoken lawyer would change the judge’s position.
Maybe aware of the situation at Lang’ata Women Prison, which she might have come across during her journalistic work, Maribe broke down into tears when it finally hit her that she would be locked there.
A close-up shot of her puffy face, with tears rolling down her cheeks told the pain and regret she was feeling – possibly cursing the day she met Jowie.
