Opposition leader Raila Odinga now claims that some of the islands within Lake Victoria which are currently enlisted under the neighboring Uganda originally belonged to Kenya.

Speaking in Kondele in Kisumu, Raila said that some of the former Kenyan islands were grabbed by Uganda during the reign of dictatorial President Iddi Amin Dada.

The former Prime Minister noted that he has since planned a meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, in a bid to revise the two nations' borders in the lake.

He added that he has had a meeting with Museveni, but will soon convene another meeting to discuss the border row that is slowly transforming into a stalemate between the two neighbors.

This comes at a time when Kenyan fishermen have been lamenting of mistreatment by Ugandan forces when found fishing in some parts of the lake.

The stalemate has also at times resulted to near-fight situations, the most recent being the lowering of Kenyan flag in Migingo island which many Kenyans maintain belongs to the nation.

Kenya owns the smallest portion of the lake shared between her, Uganda and Tanzania, getting only 6 percent of the share.

Government promises to address the issue have since apparently failed.
