Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has stripped off several Cabinet Secretaries privileges for VIP treatment on roads and major highway, a directive which will take effect immediately.
In a statement on NPS Twitter account, Mutyambai categorised people who are entitled to the treatment, omitting 19 ministers, who will now have to maneuver in congested towns despite national flag on their vehicles.
"In light of streamlining traffic flow in major cities, I hereby direct guidelines concerning entitlement and privileges on clearance of vehicles for VIP on roads and highways," he said in a statement.
Powerful Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, Defense Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo and Foreign Affairs boss Monica Juma, are the only three ministers who will be accorded the privilege.
Dr Karanja Kibicho, the powerful Interior Principal Secretary, is only the PS who is in the list of the mighty. He was involved in a scuffle with DP William Ruto reportedly at JKIA recently.
"Any other vehicle will require authority by Traffic Officer in charge in certain region on special cases," said Mutyambai, adding that only Traffic Officer in charge will decide on whether or not to award the request.
Vehicles bearing Government of Kenya number plate which do not fall under the special categories will have to strictly follow the normal traffic rules.
"Any Government vehicle found violating traffic regulations especially those overlapping, the driver shall be arrested and charged in accordance to the law.The directive takes place with immediate effect," he added.
