Speaking on Thursday, Migori OCPD Patrick Macharia noted that over 30 suspects have been nabbed and prosecuted in the county alone in the last five days.

Among them, he added, are six passengers who were nabbed for boarding matatus which had already reached their maximum carrying capacity, otherwise referred to as overloading.

The six, he said, are in police custody pending their arraignment in court, as the state seeks to restore sanity in the public transport sector, reports the Citizen Digital.

Warning of more arrests and prosecution of traffic offenders, the police boss cautioned passengers and public service operators against engaging in traffic offences.

He added that 25 PSV vehicles have as well been impounded in line with the crackdown, in an operation that has as well seen drivers and conductors brought to book over traffic crimes.

The state has since come out in full force in an attempt to reinstitute traffic rules introduced by former Traffic Cabinet Minister, the late John Michuki, popularly known as 'Michuki Rules'.

In Kisumu, police conducted the operation, but matatu operators changed routes to avoid arrest.
