The University of Eldoret is one of the several public universities in the country.
It's located in Chepkoilel, on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
Like many other institutions of higher learning across the country, the university cannot accommodate all its students due to limited hostels. Some students are forced to rent a room nearby the institutions like Sogomo and Kimumu estates.
The rooms they occupy depend on their parent's financial ability.

Plastic chairs and utensils
A good number of students in the Eldoret of University use plastic materials. According to a number of them, they have two good reasons for such, their stay is temporary and plastic materials are cheap.
"Plastic utensils are economical. I prefer them to the glass. Afterall we are here for a season," Linus Kibet, a 3rd-year student said.
Woofer or Televisions
Most students love music. After a tiresome week, they listen to loud music during the weekend. Students in the University of Eldoret have various brands of music systems in their rental rooms
"We normally have a bash, we use them to colour the day. I also listen to soft music as I study," Maureen Kishoin a second-year education student noted.
Some like following trending news, hence having televisions sets is a must for them.
Study corner
Although the rooms are majorly singles, students have a study corner. The place is set for discussion, personal study and tasks. Students find this more important than entertainment.
"I must have a study corner to avoid going to school every time. This is paramount than anything else," Denis Kipchirchir said.
