Thousands of people on Thursday received the remains of former Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation presenter Meshack Onyamo, who passed on a fortnight ago.
Mr Onyamo, who rocked air waves in 90s, died in Kisii after amputation of his second leg. His body was ferried from Hema mortuary to his Magwagwa home.
Along the highway, mourners lined up to have a glimpse of the final journey of the man who made them tune into radios when the FM stations had hardly ventured in media industry.
One of the mourners, Dennis Marube, described him as a God fearing man and a media icon who was dedicated when performing duties.
"Meshack was a radio icon. He was part of KBC Ekegusii team which broadcasted from Kisumu. It's said that he passed on. We lost a true radio icon."
KBC devolved most of initial radio stations. Currently, the Ekegusii team is known as Minto FM, which rivals Royal Media's Egesa FM. The latter's radio boss Nancy Kwamboka was among those in funeral procession.
Besides his noble and glittering career in media, Mr Onyamo's children have excelled in music industry. Fenny Kerubo and Dennis Onyamo are celebrated gospel singers.
In an interview on Thursday, gospel singer Embarambamba, hailed the two singers, adding that they had lived to the true spirit of their father by preaching God's word.
"We may have lost Mzee but we are thankful that he leaves behind a strong team. His children are focused and ready to leave a mark," he said.
Politicians are expected to crowd the funeral on Friday, given that Ms Kerubo, is a former Groove Award winner and a friend to hundreds of people.
