Erustus Machoka, the man credited for transforming finance management system in the County Assembly of Nyamira is dead.
Mr Machoka, who joined the assembly at the inception of devolved system of governments in 2013 as a finance officer, was promoted to Director Internal Audit in 2018.
Speaker Moffat Teya described him as a 'diligent worker' who took his duties seriously by sticking to the oath of office.
"It is with an extremely heavy heart that I pass my condolences to the County Assembly of Nyamira fraternity, family, relatives and friends of Erastus Machoka who until his demise was the County Assembly Director of Internal Audit.
"Machoka was one of the pioneer members of staff who set the basic foundation upon which the institution was founded. He served with dedication as Director for Finance where he provided invaluable insights in the running of Finance and Accounts Departments in the Assembly.
"He was an amiable and jovial person who was slow to anger but quick to provide solutions in situations that would appear naturally complicated," the speaker, who first broke the sad news, wrote in an emotional text that was widely shared on social media.
At the Internal Audit office, Mr Machoka is believed to be the man who initiated ruthless radical surgery that saw Assembly Clerk Daniel Orina suspended over loss of millions from the assembly between the period 2013-17.
His staff mates, who could not hide their affection to his logical style of approach to financial issues, mourned him emotionally with some crediting him for the milestone in financial prudence.
"Truly this is sad news to all of us. Mr. Machoka was a friend, a colleague and a father. We pray for guidance during this difficult moments. Pole all," wrote Leonard Nyamagese, Acting Director Finance and Accounts.
Acting Clerk Duke Onyari said: "We have lost a determined servant of people. We put his family in prayers during this difficult moments."
He died on Thursday evening at Top Hill Hospital in Eldoret after a short illness.
