Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has broken silence on plot by Siaya Senator James Orengo to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking on Citizen TV 's Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) on Wednesday night, Mutua said he does not agree with Orengo's push to impeach Ruto.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party governor noted that DP Ruto's impeachment could destabilize the country's unity.
"I do not agree with the whole idea of impeaching William Ruto, first, because I do not think it would succeed and second because I want to be given a chance to beat him fairly in 2022 when I run for presidency," the vocal Machakos governor said.
Governor Mutua exuded confidence that he will beat DP Ruto and other candidates in the 2022 presidential election.
Orengo's plot to impeach DP Ruto continues to elicit debate across the political divide.
A section of politicians allied to Jubilee Party has rubbished the alleged motion, saying they will shoot it down.
Led by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, the politicians also accuse opposition leader Raila Odinga of allegedly sponsoring the motion to have Ruto impeached.
The politicians are further accusing Raila of allegedly eyeing DP Ruto's seat.
Orengo says he has enough grounds to initiate Ruto's impeachment.
The Siaya Senator states that he will use all available means to ensure Ruto is removed from office.
It is not the first time Orengo is initiating an impeachment motion against an executive office holder.
In 1998, Orengo as the then Ugenya MP, unsuccessfully plotted for retired president Daniel Arap Moi's impeachment.
