The latter was sent home by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, and claims that he was never told why he was being shown the door.

Speaking during a funeral in Matungu, Kakamega on Saturday, he added that he only heard of his sacking though the media and is yet to receive an official communication.

However, he accepted his fate, admitting that he might have been wrong and the president is right to push him out.

“The President knew why he appointed me to serve and I believe he had a reason to ask me to step aside," he was quoted by the Standard.

He added that Uhuru has every right to make changes in his cabinet and what he did remains well placed within the constitution and therefore unchallengeable.

“It’s the prerogative of the President to reorganise his Cabinet the way he wants. Constitutionally, the President has the mandate and power to hire and fire," added Echesa.

The sack comes exactly a year after Echesa was picked to replace former CS Hassan Wario who is facing graft allegations.

Uhuru has not uttered a word since replacing the latter with his former Education counterpart Amina Mohammed, his fellow Western Kenya leaders have condemned the action.

Led by Mumias East lawmaker and National Assembly Majority Whip Bernard Washiali, they have faulted Uhuru, expressing their dissatisfaction with his latest action.
